Vote Deborah Gonzalez!

Keep an eye out for the next few weeks! We are very proud to be riding around district 117 pedal promoting the candidacy of Deborah Gonzalez, a democrat running for the GA House in the upcoming special election on Nov. 7th! Early voting starts October 16th. Ms. Gonzalez's support of our business and the service we provide is in keeping with her commitment to a livable climate and a living wage here in GA! We will have some yard signs, flyers, bumper stickers and donation envelopes with us on our cart so if you want some just give us a wave ๐Ÿ‘‹and we'll give you one!”๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿšด๐ŸŒŽ☺
Here goes Caleb out and about riding the route between the Athens Farmer's Market and the West Broad Farmer's Market in Athens Saturday morning!

This guy & the gal in her Haloween costume are interesting. We were biking up Baxter street while they were taking photos of her Wild Rumpus costume & they called out: " Hey! We live in district 117! Yeah Deborah Gonzalez!" Made for an interesting photo!
Passed a mom & her daughter on Prince on their way to the markets! The mom had on this great t-short from Avid Books! & she volunteers for Deborah Gonzalez phone banking!

Winterville Georgia Marigold Festival 2017!!! Welcome to the Eco Village!

Okay, so I have pretty much experiences the all time high-light of my professional career this past weekend by participating  in the Winterville Georgia Marigold Festival parade and 1st ever Eco Village. I got to follow the one and only Ms. Edna in the parade: the most high energy one-eyed, toothless, octogenarian, trans-gendered, tap dancer in full hand made regalia ever!!! She tapped danced her way down the streets of this adorable little town in the deep south on Saturday, and I got to ring my bike bell in time with her moves! waving that thanking the folks of Winterville for being such a great community to ride bike through!!!
I got to chat away with Ms. Edna for about an hour and half before the parade started, and she just blew my mind. She told me about how in 1984 she was walking through the mall for exercise, when she heard an interesting percussive sound, and looked over the balcony railing to see an little 9 year old girl in full costume doing a traditional German clogging dance. "Ms. Edna decided then and there she wanted to BE that little 9 year old girl, and by golly! SHE IS!!! We both spent a minute sending out all our good vibes of thanks to that little girl where ever she is, for all the happiness and inspirations she has brought into this world!
Little City Diner is one of the first businesses to advertise with us and I was really thrilled to have their banner on the cart in the parade too!
Being in the Eco Village was a lovely way to spend the day. Kids were encouraged to visit each of the nine booths to get their bingo  card stamped for entry into a drawing for a kayak, and so I plunked myself down at eye level on my picnic blanket on the ground with my "Babes on Bikes" pop-up Gang Zine to talk about how anyone of any age can ride a bike for a better world and also anyone of any age can be an entrepreneur, building businesses for a better world too! There was one little lady, probably about 4 or 5 who told me she wants to build her own tiny house! I happened to have a few copies of another hand-made pop-up book I made a few years ago, "The Legendary $ide-Money Pop-up Book" about the journey with money to build my little off grid ultimate play house. In case she and her mom visit this blog post please follow this LINK to the blog I have been blogging along with over the years about building my house. Lots of HOW-TO! If I can do it so can you!!!
Another high point of he day was getting me meet n' greet "Little Miss Marigold" Alora Plemmons! She even ran back across the field to give me a good-bye hug before heading home after a very exciting day!!!

We advertised the Eco Village ahead of the event on our bike carts, and we made the banner so it can be re-used next year too! Looking forward to it already!

Babes on Bikes Gang Zine

I can't help myself. I LOVE to make pop-up books, so I chopped up a bunch of magazine from the public library free bin and whipped a new pop up zine for the Marigold Festival this weekend. We at Pedal Promotion are so excited to be advertising for the festival in Winterville GA this weekend, and to be one of the booths at the first ever Eco-Village! Come check us out tomorrow, May 20th from 9-3 and give this new zine a boo!

I want to be a part of a girl power bike gang "Babes on Bikes". So this is my most recent contribution to the kind of cycling culture I want to be a part of!

We bike for everyday transportation!      We support fellow injured cyclists!       We make seed bombs and write and deliver handwritten messages and letters!      We talk relentlessly about climate change!
We make make make our own escapes, skill sets, brainstorms, choices, consequences, community, cartoons, food, maps, flags, secret gardens, challenges, memories, contributions, simplicity, networks and courses.            We are naturally survivors!

I intentionally oriented the pictures wonky. You should get one in real life! $15! Come out to the festival, we will have other hand-made sustainability pop-up books there too, or you can send us an email and we'll send you one!

Be Present!!! Don't text and Drive!!!

WOA!!!! Savage Cyclist!! Check out Colin Busting Righteous Moves today!!! and also demonstrating the perfect cycling posture! He is especially motivated to ride these hours with the Be Present! Don't Text and Drive message sponsored by Hub Bikes here in Athens because he lost his best friend to a texting driver in 2014. His friend was crushed on his moped, he lost his life and Colin's life was changed forever.

The Hub Bikes sponsored this banner in memory of Ashley Block, a young woman who was killed last year while on a group ride hosted by the shop. She was hit head on by a drug and high texting drive who crossed the yellow lines and smashed into her and the cyclists behind her....while her 2 year old child was in the car. Thanks to the Hub for their advocacy for our local cycling community and cycling culture.

Down to Earth Energy, in Monroe Georgia

Took a little Road trip today out to visit Down to Earth Energy in Monroe GA. about 20 miles from Athens. It is a solar powered, small batch, recycled grease bio-diesel facility, producing 3,300 gallons of B5, B20, B100 a day. They have three buildings aside from the rebuilt barn where they make the bio-diesel, each roof completely covered in solar panels. It is a 115kw system, which provides 80% of their power, and they are working on installing a diesel generator to run on bio-diesel to provide the rest.

Hard to see, but here's the pump: just drive up. B20 is $2.40 and B100 is $2.30 a gallon. They partner with Clean Energy Bio-Diesel, an Atlanta based company that picks up used grease and delivers finished bio-diesel. Their biggest customer is Whole Foods in Atlanta.

Solar hot water system is used to keep the finished bio-diesel hot, and for a variety of other work at the facility.

The roof space of 3 main office/production buildings provide power with  a $750k solar system.

The bio-diesel is produced here in this re-built barn. This type of facility is the future: self sustaining, recycling, small batch production for regional delivery.
